Professor Oliver’s international background enriches her teaching.   Her father was born in Japan, her mother in Spain, and Professor Oliver was born in Mexico City, Mexico.  She immigrated to the United States in 1974 and began teaching at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in 1987.  Because she is fluent in Spanish, she has served as courtroom interpreter in state and federal courts, and was appointed by the Arkansas Supreme Court to serve on the committee on the certification of foreign-language interpreters in the State of Arkansas.   She was the recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching for the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in 1993 and 2006, and in 1993 she was also selected, by a group of national judges, to be the recipient of the University-wide Faculty Excellence Award in Teaching.  While in law school, she was Research Editor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Journal.   The Arkansas Bar Association has awarded her the Golden Gavel Award for her work as Chair of the Committee on Individuals with Disabilities, and The Arkansas Bar Foundation has awarded her the Writing Excellence Award for an article on disability law issues in colleges and universities.  She has conducted continuing legal education courses for attorneys and numerous presentations to other groups in the areas of disability law, immigration law, and legal writing.   She teaches Reasoning, Writing, and Advocacy; Immigration Law; and Disability Law.   In July 2007, Professor Oliver was appointed by the Chancellor Anderson of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to chair The Chancellor’s Committee on the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is a University-wide committee.  Also in July 2007, she was appointed by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in Washington, D.C. to serve in the Arkansas State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
