After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he served on the Board of Editors of the Harvard Law Review, Professor Stafford spent two years on active duty with the United States Army. He returned to Arkansas and practiced law for eight years before joining the faculty in 1982. He has held several posts with the state of Arkansas including Assistant Attorney General, Public Service Commissioner, and Chief Legal Counsel to the Governor. He was Assistant Project Director of the Arkansas Criminal Code Revision Commission and co-authored the commentary to the Arkansas Criminal Code and the Arkansas Rules of Criminal Procedure. He currently serves on the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Model Jury Instructions (Criminal) and the Committee on Criminal Rules. In 1996 he joined the board of the directors of the Center for Arkansas Legal Services, Inc., a nonprofit legal services corporation providing legal assistance in 47 of the state’s 75 counties. Professor Stafford teaches Advanced Taxation, Federal Income Taxation, Partnership Taxation, and Commercial Paper. His primary research interest is Arkansas legal history.
