Welcome to the website for the UALR Law Review.  On January 1, 1978, the first issue of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Journal (U. Ark. Little Rock L.J.) was published.  During its early years, the Journal published two issues each year.  Beginning with volume 5, the Journal became a quarterly publication.  In 1998 beginning with volume 21, the name of the Journal was changed to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Review (U. Ark. Little Rock L. Rev.)

Symposium
The 2008 Ben J. Altheimer Symposium will be held on Friday April 18 in the Friday Courtroom.  The topic is entitled: Judging the Selection Process: The Merits of the Election System for State Judges.  Among other issues, we hope to explore the advantages and disadvantages of Arkansas's election system for state judges, as well as examine recent movements in other states to change its method of selecting judges.  Although judicial selection is a perennially hot topic, it has become increasingly debated as states adjust their judicial canons to conform with the Supreme Court's 2002 ruling in Republican Party of Minnesota v. White (holding that the announce clause in Minnesota's Code of Judicial Conduct, which prohibited judicial candidates from stating their views on disputed legal or political issues, violated the first amendment freedom of speech).

We are honored to have the following people speak at the symposium: Judge Lavenski Smith of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, Justice Robert Brown of the Arkansas Supreme Court, Judge Timothy Fox of the Pulaski County Circuit Court, Justice Annabelle Clinton Imber of the Arkansas Supreme Court, Professor Jay Barth of Hendrix College, and Professor Lawrence Averill, former dean and professor of the UALR law school.

The revised schedule for the 2008 Altheimer Symposium is available here.

If you have any questions about the symposium, please contact Chris McNulty at camcnulty@ualr.edu.
