Welcome to the website for the UALR Law Review.  On January 1, 1978, the first issue of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Journal (U. Ark. Little Rock L.J.) was published.  During its early years, the Journal published two issues each year.  Beginning with volume 5, the Journal became a quarterly publication.  In 1998 beginning with volume 21, the name of the Journal was changed to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Review (U. Ark. Little Rock L. Rev.)

Symposium

2009 Altheimer Symposium Registration (pdf)

The 2009 Ben J. Altheimer Symposium will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in the Friday Courtroom at the Bowen School of Law.  The topic is entitled: Lawyering for Social Justice: Exploring the Roles of Immigration and G.L.B.T. Cause Lawyers.  This year’s symposium will focus on “cause lawyering.”  Cause lawyering is defined as “any activity that seeks to use law-related means or seeks to change law or regulations to achieve greater social justice—both for a particular individual and for disadvantaged groups.”  We will explore current issues affecting immigrants and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender communities.  Specifically, we will provide a survey of current law and, for lawyers and scholars working to advance these causes, offer practical guidance and perspectives on possible issues that may hinder progress in these areas.

We are honored to have the following people speak at the symposium: Ilona Turner, staff attorney at the National Center for Lesbian Rights (California); Abby Rubenfeld, Member of Tennessee’s ACLU Board of Directors and former Legal Director of Lambda Defense and Educational Fund (Tennessee); Elise Shore, Regional Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defenses and Educational Fund (Georgia); Bobbie Wilson of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin (California); Zak Kramer, professor at the Dickinson School of Law (Penn State University); Karla McKanders, professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law (Knoxville, TN); Misty Borkowski, associate at the law offices of James, Carter, and Coulter.; Dr. Andre Guerrero,  Director of Programs for Language Minority at the Arkansas Department of Education; Guillermo Hernandez, lead immigration counsel with The Hernandez Law Firm, PLLC; Leo Monterrey, The Monterrey Law Firm; Bettina Brownstein, partner at Wright, Lindsey & Jennings, LLP;Milton DeJesus, Milton A. De Jesus PA Immigration-International Law & Trade Associates; and David Ivers, Mitchell, Blackstock, Barnes, Wagoner, Ivers, Sneddon PLLC.*
